If you're looking for a book that is short but good, then Love, Stargirl is the book for you! I just finished the book Love, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli and I loved it. Plus, It only took me like 3 days to read it! I thought that the book was really good but in my opinion it could have ended better. This book is realistic fiction, and it was about a 16 year old girl named Susan, but goes by the name Stargirl. She moved from her hometown in Arizona and left a lot of things behind including Leo. Her once (and future?) boyfriend. But she met some new people too. Like, her new best friend Dootsie, a five year old 'human bean', and Betty Lou, who hasn't been outside her house for nine years now. She also met a 11 year old girl named Alvina, who hates every boy in the world, and Perry, a theif who steals Stargirl's heart. She tells Leo all about these new friends of hers in the 'longest letter in the world' she has been writing to him almost every day. Will her and Leo ever get back together again? Or will she live her whole life trying to get more than only 2 pebbles in her happy wagon?

“DRUMS, GIRLS, & DANGEROUS PIE”

I HAVE BEEN READING A BOOK CALLED “DRUMS, GIRLS, & DANGEROUS PIE”, BY JORDAN SONNENBLICK. IT IS A GREAT BOOK IF YOU LIKE COMEDY BUT THERE’S A LITTLE OF DRAMA, TOO. IT’S ALSO A REALISTIC FICTION BOOK. THE BOOK IS REALLY AMAZING! I WILL TELL YOU A LITTLE ABOUT IT.

Steven has a totally normal life (well, almost): He plays drums in the All-City Jazz Band (whose members call him Peasant). Has a crush on the hottest girl in school (who doesn’t even know he’s alive). He is constantly annoyed by his younger brother Jeffery (who is cuter than cute-which is also pretty annoying to him). When Steven’s little brother Jeffery gets sick, his world is turned upside down. He is forced to deal with his brother’s illness .His parents’ attempts to keep the family in one-piece .His homework, the band, girls, and Dangerous Pie. You will have to read the rest of the book to find out what it is.

My favorite part of the book was when it all started. Steven got up early in the morning to practice on his drums. All of the sudden his little brother, Jeffery, came down. He asked if Steven could make him some moat meal. Moat meal is really oatmeal, Jeffery just calls it that. So they went upstairs and Steven set Jeffery on a stool. The bad thing is, Steven’s mom told him that when Jeffery is on the stool, someone has to be right next to him. Just because he is too small and can fall out. While Steven is making the oatmeal, he hears a big bang. It was Jeffery .He fell of the stool. When he picked him up his nose was gushing blood. His mother took him to the doctor and they told her that he might have cancer.

The book I’m posting about is the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. In this book there is hatred, betrayal, and cruelty. Would you want to be a part of this? This story is about Katniss Everdeen and how she survives the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a tournament in which the tributes fight to the death. Her little sister is drawn to be in the games of a pool of more than 1,000 people. Katniss doesn’t want her to be in there, so she volunteers to take her spot. She is then prepped to enter the games in the head of the districts, the Capitol. In the middle of the tournament, with about 10 tributes left (out of 24), the head gamemaker makes an announcement that two tributes from one district can win so she teams up and helps the wounded tribute from her district, Peeta. But when they are the last two tributes the gamemaker makes a devastating announcement that it is against the rules to have two tributes…. What happens next? It is your job to find out! Read the series!

The moral or theme of this book is that you should stand up when the rules are wrong. Some rules are meant to be broken. Apparently, Katniss feels the same way. She breaks a rule in the very beginning of the book. Food was scarce so she went into the woods you aren’t supposed to be in with two things: her partner Gale and her father’s bow.
I think this book definitely earns the awards it receives, and it probably should’ve gotten more!!! This book received awards because of its action and suspense. It had plenty of moments that you didn’t want to put the book down. I went 2 hours without talking, drinking, or eating because of how good this book was.
Read this book!!!!

“Nation”
Book Review
What would you do if you were deserted on an island with a native boy who didn’t speak your language? Well that is exactly what happens to Daphne, but what happens when they save each other’s lives and spend more and more time together, you’ll have to read the book to find out! “Nation” is an action, Award Winning Novel written by Terry Patchett.

The message the author is trying to get through is that you should never judge someone by their appearance. For example at the beginning of the story when Daphne first saw Mau, the native boy, she tried to shoot him….. Luckily the gun was broken from flooding. This shows she was scared of him because he was different from the people she was used to.

If I had to rate this book I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. I would only do 4 because the beginning of the book did not interest me as much as throughout the rest of the book. Yet it was still a fantastic book filled with suspense, action, and a hint of romance. This book captures you and takes you to an island far away, puts you into the story. You are at the edge of your seat biting your fingernails, full of anticipation! This book takes you out of this world, making you want more. Read this book and you’ll know the feeling…….

For this report I read a book called " A long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park. This book has won the Newbery Award. This book is about an eleven year old boy named Salva who lives in a small village in Sudan during war. One day he was at school and his teacher heard a gun shot and told the kids not to go home. If you want to know the rest I would recommend that you read the book first.

The theme of the book is to always have your family with you. Salva can't have that, because he had lost his family back in the village where the war is happening. Salva doesn't know if his parents are still alive or not.

If I could give this book a rating I would rate this 5 out of 5 because it gives you a lot of details in the book. The book starts in an interesting way because like I said there was a war back in Sudan. The book does give a lot of action because they have to go to these different camps once in a while and there's hundreds of people there. Salva shows a lot of strength because he was the only kid in his group and he's trying to fit in by acting tough. This book ends in a surprising way because Salva gets to go to America! I think you should read this book if you like action books.

What would you do if you were the only one who had the answers to a murder? In the book A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly, you learn how a young girl goes through the letters of a murder, a family that she was left to take care after her mother died, and a passion to write. Set in 1906, Mattie is a sixteen year old girl who dreams of going to college. Stuck in the burden of responsibility for her 3 sisters Mattie has a lot to deal with. Then there’s school where Matt studies for a high school degree. After she meets this boy though, she begins to think about who she really is. After convincing her very stubborn father, she goes to a hotel to get money for her poor family. At the hotel, a lady asks her to burn a bunch of letters. That night the lady is brought in dead because she had drowned. She was with a man whose body had not been found in the lake. One night, before she goes down to the cellar to burn the letters, she stops at the room the lady’s body was in. Mattie takes one look at the corpse and feels like those letters have something to do with this. So she sits down and reads. What happens next? Read the book to find out.
I think there are two main themes in this book. One of them is everyone is not who they seem to be. One example is when Mattie falls in love with a boy. At first she thought he was a rich person who only cared about farming. But after getting to know him for a while, she finds out he’s is a deep, thoughtful person. Another theme of this book is to believe in yourself. At many times in the book Matt doubted herself but once she got past that, good things always happened.
If I was to rate this book, I would give it a 4 out of 5. I loved this book and could not stop reading it. But there were a few minor issues. One was I didn’t like the beginning that much because it was a little boring. Also the book kept shifting into the future and then back to present (talking about the setting of 1906). It would tell you in the end what it was doing, which made it very good but I felt like I was confused every time the author did that. This book won the Prince Award and I think it totally deserved it. The author did a good job of bring in the feeling that you were in that time period. Also it was really well written. This book has something for everyone but I would recommend it to mostly girls. If you like a good mystery with romance, action, betrayal, tragedy, and struggles of the past this books for you. This book is based on the true story of “An American Tragedy” and will have you on the edge of your seat!!!

Guts
To me, Guts is a good book because it is about hunting and fishing. It has many stories but I am going to talk about one that is called “Life to: Hunt and Fish”. His name is Brain from Brains Story. He was living up in Montana the borders of Canada and Montana. He is hunting for a living but he worked at a bowling alley for money to buy a gun and ammo. In the middle of the story, he builds a bow with animal wastes. When he went hunting with the bow he saw a grouse. He kept missing the grouse so he started to shoot at a leaf for a while until he shot it. This book is interesting to me because I like to hunt and fish on my free time.

I read the book, “Greetings from Nowhere” by Barbara O’Connor. This is an award winning book about a woman named, Aggie, who has lost her husband, Harold, and is now living alone with her cat named, Ugly. Aggie is operating a motel called, “Sleepy Time Motel” which is located on the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. She is having trouble maintaining and operating the motel. The business is slow, so she is deciding whether to sell or keep the motel but then things take a turn. To find out what happens next you should read the book.

The message of the book is about Hope and Friendship. The families in the book have been starting a new life at the motel and forgetting the problems they had before. Kirby had been getting into a lot of trouble while living in his old town, but at the motel things were starting to get better for him. Loretta was trying to visit the places that her maternal mother went to. Willow and her dad left their old house to find a new life after her mother left them. Aggie lost her husband and was living alone at the run down motel. They all became good friends at the end of the story.

I believe the book won an award because I can understand what the book is talking about. People are always trying to forget their problems and start a new beginning.

Bud, Not Buddy✩
Would you walk a great distance to find whom you think might be your father? In the award-winning book, Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis, that is exactly what the main character Bud did. This story takes place in the time of The Great Depression back in the 1930's. Bud is an orphan at a foster home in Flint, Michigan because of his mom’s death back when Bud was six. Bud has a special suitcase that is home to pictures and belongings of his mother (Bud never leaves anywhere with out it.) One day Bud was looking through the photos and feels that his mother has left him clues to find his father like fliers of Herman E. Calloway from the band_ The Dusky Devastators of the Depression. He believes his father is Herman E. Calloway. One day Bud decides to leave his foster home without anyone knowing and tries to find Herman E. Calloway in The Grand Rapids. On his journey he encounters a man who prefers to be called "Lefty" Lewis. Lewis tells Bud everyone in Grand Rapids knows who the Herman E. Calloway is. To Bud he's just a man with a big fiddle (a bass.) "Lefty" Lewis help man find "his father" To find out the rest, READ THE BOOK!!
I think the message of this book is never give up, and you will succeed and find what you are looking for. In the book Bud never gave up and put all his blood, sweat and tears to find Herman E. Calloway, the man he believes is his father.
This book is so much better than I ever thought it would be. I never planned on reading it and pretty much never thought I would. I’m really glad I did. This book is totally a fiver star book! ✷✶✶✶✶
The book has a really good beginning and an even better ending. I was craving picking up and reading this book. This book is not really suspenseful but still has a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat. I would recommend this book to anyone no matter what their "favorite genre" is! I loved this book!

If you’re looking for a funny book that will make you want to keep reading it, you should read “Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key” by Jack Gantos. I was very excited to read this book because I have heard a lot of good reviews on it. This book is about a kid named Joey Pigza who is out of control. He had problems ever since he was born just like his Dad and Grandma had. Joey misbehaves in school. For example, when the teacher calls on him, immediately he says, “Can I get back to you on that?” and then bursts out laughing. One day Joey was running down the hall with his teacher’s sharp scissors and he tripped and accidentally cut off the tip of a girl’s nose. This made the school send him to a Special Ed class. Who knows what could happen next?
The theme or message in the story is that even though someone might act up they might be a good person inside. Some kids might need to take a certain medicine to help them behave. You shouldn’t judge someone if you don’t know their whole story.
In my opinion I loved the book and would give it a 5 star. I think it won an award because the main character showed courage and strength. He is also a lot like other kids who have problems with paying attention. I think you should read this book to find out what happens at the end and because if you are looking for a funny book to read, I would recommend this one.

Do you like magic? If so I recommend the Magic Thief. The Magic Thief’s author is Sarah Prineas (who also wrote an entire series). This book is about a boy named Conn who meets a wizard named Nevery and they go on a crazy adventure, but you have to read it to believe me.

The Magic Thief has a confusing theme. It’s confusing because it doesn’t state the theme as soon as you begin reading. The theme is- honesty is the best way to go. Here’s an idea that will get your attention; Conn should have told Nevery that he was the Underlord’s(the villein in the story) nephew. Here’s a quote describing the Underlord,”A man was standing directly opposite shouting at someone; he wore a black robe with gold trim and had a magic stone hanging from a gold chain around his neck.”

The book in general was very appealing to me because I have never read an award winning book. Some books jump right into the plot of the book making the book a long read, and really doesn’t grab the readers attention. Some books have stark endings (stark means dull) but not this book it ended with a big BANG!!! Whether you like magic or not I recommend this book to anybody who likes action and suspense.

For this months book report i read The Girl Who Throw Butterflies. This book is mostly about Molly and how she wants to play baseball. Her dad had past away but before they would play baseball together in her yard. After her dad died she decides to tryout for baseball. Her friends let her down by saying that she couldn't play baseball because baseball is for boys. Molly was upset but still tried out just to see how she did. She wanted her dad to be happy she tried.
The theme of this story is never let your dreams down. Molly's dad died but still followed her dream without her dad by her side, and made the baseball team. Molly knew that the boys wouldn't like her on their team but it still didn't stop her to play Baseball. She played like nobody was there, really she didn't care what anybody else thought. She is the only girl on the team and it still doesn't matter to her. Knowing what you always dreamed of came true, playing on a baseball team has the best feeling, and Molly lost her dad and is playing is just even better. So maybe if you try hard enough you can do whatever you wanna do.

I think this book was amazing! It was really sad and inspirational. She knew what she wanted to do took a shot and got it. It really tells me to follow my dreams and that maybe it has a chance to make it come true. Never let anyone tell you, you can't play a "boy" sport. Do what you wanna do and only you, Don't listen to the other people who have the rude comments. This book was really wonderful I hope they make a another one just like the one that I read. Read this book it will make you feel wonderful like your the one who made it all come true!

Diamond Willow
By: Helen Frost
This book is about this girl named Diamond Willow. She got her name from the diamond willow stick her dad found the day she was born. One day in the story she wanted to go to her grandma and grandpa's for the weekend. She asked her parents if she could go and after awhile they say yes. The next day she got the dogs ready for the trip through the trail. When she got there it was just before dark and she said hello to her grandparents and soon went to bed. Early the next day she starts heading back and she is going really fast. When she gets to the turn she didn't know there was a tree that had fell before she left her grandparent' s house. When she got to the turn Roxy one of the dogs (the leader) ran into the tree and her eyes were bleeding. When she started heading back with Roxy in the sled. She got home and she sees everyone outside waiting. She slows down to a stop and everyone crowds her dad was mad about what happened to Roxy. Soon her dad went to the vet alone, and the vet said she could be blind. So all they could do was try and let her eyes heal.
I think the theme of this book is that seeing isn't everything. Roxy couldn't see most of the time from the accident, but she never need to see in the first place.
I thought this book was very interesting. I think it was important because it caught my attention with all that happened in the story.

For my February book report i chose the book Joey Pigza swallowed the Key. It was a great book! It was an award winner and Jack Gantos wrote the book. The book is about Joey Pigza who can't control himself. He needs extra help in school. For example when in class the teacher would call on Joey and Joey would say "can i get back to you on that?" He took medication but they would wear off half way through the day. He got to the point where he was hurting people. For Example in the story Joey Pigza had sneaked out of class when the smart kids went on stage to hear a speech about how it was going to be up to them to change the world. Then he decided that he wanted to change the world also. He wanted to get the scissors from Mrs. Maxy. When he was running back to his desk he tripped over his rabbit slippers and then hit Maria with the scissors on his way to go back to the desk. Her nose started to bleed. Then Maria went to the emergency room. Joey Pigza was out of control. Another time Joey was playing with his key and he swallowed it! It shows that he needs special help. Then he sees Special Ed. He helped Joey with his problems and found out just the right amount of medication.

I think the theme was of the book is everyone
is different and anyone is capable to become a better person. Joey Pigza is a very unique child. He thinks differently than everyone, and he acts different than everyone. In the beginning of the story he can't control himself. In the end he's a better person because he had the help he needed and the right amount of medication for his body.

I loved this book! I learned a lot from this book because not everyone is the same and u should respect people for who they are. This book was really good and deserves an award winner because it teaches you a very good lesson and theme. I thought about how this does apply to our school. Everyone is different and i like that about our school, and i think that we do a very good job at M.J.H.S of respecting others. It starts out with introducing what life is like at home for Joey, and then just take you through his journey through school. This seems very realistic in my opinion. This book overall was good. I would recommend it to anyone in 6th grade. It"s a quick easy read. I loved it! :)

I don’t think that I’ve ever read such an amazing book as The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, is one of the most adventurous, exciting books ever. In the story, Katniss, the oldest of two, raised by her mother, gets called into the hunger games. The Hunger Games are where 24 contestants compete to get out alive. It is a blood-bath in an arena where the 24 of them get put, to fight to the death. There is one girl and one boy from each of the 12 districts. Katniss and Peeta (the tributes from district 12) are put to the ultimate test of survival. They have to find shelter, food, and water. The rules are simple, there are no rules. Some people decide to form alliances, but some stay alone. The problem with alliances is, you never know if your team will turn on you. No one from district 12 has ever won except for Haymitch, who is Katniss and Peeta’s guide. Will one of them survive the terrifying hunger games?
I believe that the theme of this story is, no matter how weak or strong you think you are, you have to put it to the ultimate test to find out. I believe that this is the theme because you may think you’re strong, but some people were really just very weak in the book. For example, the tributes (people from the wealthy districts that take pride in having been chosen for the Hunger Games) ended up being kind of weak.
All in all, The Hunger Games was a very incredible book. I think that the book won an award because it had a lot of suspense and cliff hangers in the story. Also, it was one of the most action filled books I have ever read. Katniss is the most courageous characters ever. Risking lives for friends, and for those that aren’t friends. This is the most amazing book I think I will ever read.

The book I read for this months book report was “Peak” written by Ronald Smith. This book was about a boy named Peak who loved climbing. He had a long lost father that was also a mountain climber, his mother also climbed too before she had Peak. Though one day Peak tries climbing a skyscraper. It did not go has planned he got into trouble, which lead him moving out of his town to go with his father he barely knew. His father gave him an adventure that he will never forget; he climbed Mount Everest. His job was to be the youngest person to climb Mount Everest. That world record did not happen the way Peak’s father wanted it to.

The message the author was trying to tell us was that sometimes life is hard, but you just have to be strong enough to overcome it. This is the theme because Peak had to train for climbing Mount Everest. He had to conquer how heavy his gear was. In order to climb the huge mountain [Mount Everest] he had to be strong enough to do this adventure. Peak was so sore from all this training but it sure paid off once he got the hang of it!

If I had to rate this book, “Peak” I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars. It did not interest me through the beginning of this book. Though by the end it really made me sit at the edge of my seat! I think it won an award because it has lot of action throughout the book. This book by the middle of it will take you away from this world and stick you right inside this book and won’t let you out! It was a fanatic book! Read it and find out what the big shocker is at the end!

Imagine a world without cellphones, iPods, or Facebook. There is no television, no internet, and no cars. This is what life was like for Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the book, Little House in the Big Woods. This book is about Laura Ingalls and her family's life in their log cabin in Pepin, Wisconsin. Going to town was an important event because she had never gone to town before. Another important event was when the "sugar snow" arrived. When it arrived Laura's grandfather held a big dance to celebrate the tapping of the maple trees in the Big Woods.

The message the author is trying to get across is that family is important. When it was time to butcher the pig, it wouldn't have been finished if the entire family hadn't helped get it done. At the dance, they wouldn't have gotten the maple syrup from the maple trees for the sugar snow if the family wasn't there to help.

I know that this is one of my new favorite books. It is not often that you find a book about a person's life so long ago with such incredible detail where it is still interesting to a modern child. Mrs. Wilder's book drew me in and I didn't leave until the very last word.

If your looking for a great book, with a helpful life lesson, you should definitely read the book Road To Paris by Nikki Grimes! This book is about an 8 year old girl named Paris, and her 10 year old brother named Malcolm. They have gone through so much together going from foster home, to foster home. They get separated and have to live without each other, which is the hardest thing to go through. While Paris lives with a nice family that doesn't beat her like her last home, Malcolm is living in tragedy with not very reliable food. Their mother decides to get married again after their dad left them, and have a fresh start, but she has done it many times, and it never worked out well. Paris had a very hard decision to make.

This book has a very strong message that the author really made clear to me. The message is to always try to keep your family close, because if you don't, in the end... you will regret it. This became very clear to me because when Paris was with her new foster family she didn't even care to talk to her mom because all of the things she has put them through. But she's their mom and they should always keep close to each other.

Honestly, I love this book, and it is my favorite. There are so many reasons why I love it, but the most important reason is because Paris and Malcolm have gone through so much, and they still stand tall. When I read it, I feel the feelings that Paris is going through. It is amazing how the author makes you feel while reading it!

If you are looking for a historical fiction book with lots of suspense The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell is the book for you. This book is about a boy who lives in Germany and his name is Helmuth. This story takes place during World War II when Hitler ruled Germany. Hitler got rid of many freedoms such as listening to the radio and reading books. The people were only allowed to listen to only one German radio station and read only books written by German authors. He also made a curfew for adults and children. Hitler said things were going to be better, but they only got worse. Helmuth wanted everyone to be free and to not listen to Hitler. Helmuth listened to the British radio broadcast and heard that they were actually telling the whole story of the war, unlike the German broadcast. Helmuth wanted people to know this so he made pamphlets telling the truth. On August 11, 1942, he was arrested for betraying Hitler and found guilty.
The theme of this story is that Helmuth was very loyal to his country and he wanted the people to hear the truth. He was loyal because he knew he was breaking the law, but he tried to tell the truth to other people. He always listened to the forbidden radio station just to hear the whole truth. To me, that shows that Helmuth is loyal.
This book deserved to win an award because it was very interesting. I liked how it started when Helmuth was a child and how it showed the changes in Germany when Hitler came to power. This story is based on a true story and Helmuth was a real person who grew up in Germany during World War II. It’s hard to believe that a teenage boy could be so brave and go to jail for what he did.

For the February book report I did 'Theodoore Boone Kid Laywer' by John Grisham. It's about a boy named Theoodore that loves the intrest of trials and court. He wants to find out if Mr. Duffy ( The person who might have killed his wife) is guilty. Theo's friend has a cousin who saw Mr. Duffy go in to his house a probably kill his wife. The cousin took the gloves Mr. Duffy was wearing and gave it to Theo. He wants prove so he takes the gloves to the court and the judge finds out that............ Well you are going to read the book to find out!!!

The theme of the story is " Of any age, you can achive something that you love to do" Theo really likes the quality of solving mysterys and finding out the clues like the has the gloves. Theo went to every trial to find the facts of Mr. Duffy. His family was in the court business for a while so that is where Theo must get it from! Theo found out if Mr. Duffy was guilty or inoocent so he was very proud to be a major part of the trial since he had the main part of evidence; the gloves.

This book was very interesting, but at sometimes the main idea of the story went off at sometimes. I liked the book very much. If I could rate the book I'd rate it a 4 out of 5 stars! If you chose to read this book keep reading because the parts of the trial are very interesting! It also teaches you things about real trials and what they do during the story! Theodoore Boone Kid Lawyer was a very good book.

For the February book report i chose the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzaane Collins. The Hunger Games are a series that take place in the future. The continent North America as we know it has been split into 13 districts. District 13 was bombed by the capital. Every year, the capital hosts 'The Hunger Games' which is a sports event where the districts' children are raffled out to fight to the death. The event that decides which tributes or sacrifices will be competing is called the reaping. On the day of the reaping, the main character, Katniss Everdeen, doesn't get chosen. The most important thing in the world to her gets chosen. Her little sister, Primrose. Katniss decides to volunteer to be a tribute in Primrose's place. She and the boy tribute, Peeta Mellark, go to the capital to prepare for the arena. When about half the tributes are dead, the game-maker makes a shocking announcement. Two tributes from the same district can win and be crowned victors. Katniss finds Peeta badly wounded. The two eventually kill of the rest of the tributes. But when a swirl of bad luck strikes, the signs of love, happiness, and safety are just footprints left in the sand. Will there be two victors? Does Katniss die? To find out more read the book!
There were several themes through out each novel in The Hunger Games series, but only one is the most important. I think that the one that appears the most would be to never lose hope. The author expresses this in many different ways. Not once does she come right out and say, "The theme is to never lose hope." The theme is usually hidden by the wording but stressed powerfully. In this series, there are several times that Katniss does lose hope. When there is no promise of ever coming to an end of the unlimited chains of deaths and misery, you put your head up, and keep your eyes on the prize. On the real purpose of what you are fighting for. This message applies to so many things in life. Never lose hope for the girl on fire.
In my opinion, I couldn't put this book down. It is a life-changing novel entwined with misery, betrayal, death, and finally love. This series deserves the award and praise it has received. The suspense in this series was enraging. I was always trying to find time to read it. And yes, I recommend the series to everyone who can handle it. Let the blazing flame of Katniss Everdeen never burn out!

The name of my book is "Wait Till Helen Comes," written by Mary Downing Hahn. This book was about this little girl named Heather who lost her mother when their house caught on fire so now Heather's father married Molly's mother, and they moved to an old church and in their backyard was a graveyard. This is where Heather meets this unkind ghost named Helen, and Helen makes Heather do stupid things. Helen tries to convince Heather to drowned so they could be together forever, but Molly comes and saves Heather.
The theme of my book is don't trust everybody. The evidence to prove this is that in the story Heather trusts Helen, and Helen is trying to kill her.
On a scale of one to ten I give this book a ten. I loved this book so much, because of the great details, and it was one of thoughs books you don't want to put down. "Wait Till Helen Comes," is one of the best books I ever read.

Are you interested in to mountain climbing? If you are the book peak by Roland Smith will be the perfect book for you! This story is about a 14 year old boy named Peak who is living with his father for 3 years. Peaks father (Josh) is taking him up to climb the highest mountain on Earth, Everest. If Peak makes it up before his birthday he will be the youngest person on Earth to climb Everest.

Its not easy climbing a mountain, and you cant do it without faith in yourself. This story teaches kids to keep faith in your self. In the story peak never gives up he just keeps on going.

I think this book is really good. I Think it won the reward because it was really interesting this book started drawing me in to the book. This book started out really good and it finished really good. Do you think Peak is going to make it to the top of the mountain before he turns 15? It's your job to find out.

My book report for this month's book report is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games is a fabulous book by a fabulous author. This book has everything from action to romance to violence. The Hunger Games fits your personality no matter who you are, and all you can do is hang on for the ride. Katniss Everdeen and her family are scraping the bottom of the barrel. She provides for them since her dad died and her mom's world fell apart. When she volunteers to take her sister's place in the yearly Hunger Games, her best friend Gale watches them and her world flips upside down. Being paired with Peeta( also from District 12), they go into the blood- stopping heart- racing battle they call the Hunger Games.
For me, the theme of this book is to live every day like it's your last. To love life and every being and form that comes with it. In the book, Katniss never knows if she's going to live or die. Every day is a game with every string attached. That struck me as important and a rule to live by.
I thought this book was amazing. This book is the kind of book you ditch important events for. The kind of book you spend every waking minute reading. That crawls inside your brain and stays there even when you are done reading it. That you read over and over and over just to get that feeling that you are inside the book, the effortless feeling that is so light and breezy but hard and heavy it feels like you are flying. To fall in love every night and day that you stay up when you're not supposed to and think about as easily as you think about breathing. So charged with energy and emotion it could be living. This book is a fire; it starts off soft then burns high and brings the heat. Then fades with a shimmer in the foggy air so all there is left are the ashes. Katniss shows so much bravery and strength that every person can relate to. This book is so effective you have to read the rest of the books or your life will be in ruins. I absoloutley adore Suzanne Collins and the entire Hunger Games series. Thans so much for reading!

“War Horse” is an exciting, thrilling and amazing book written by Michael Morpurgo. Joey is a horse who lives in the 1900’s. Joey had many adventures. While he was a farm horse, he had a longtime friend and companion named Albert. One day there was breaking news that a war had begun. Albert’s dad needed money to maintain his farm, so he sold Joey to the Calvary. While Joey was in the Army, he and his rider- Captain Nicholls, were like to leaders of the pack. One day in a charge, his rider was shot. Joey was afraid of the charge and so he didn’t notice Captain Nicholls was dead for a while. As time goes on, Joey is not just recognized for being a hero, but for surviving the war.

I believe that the message of the story is to never give up. Joey never gave up and survived the war. When the war was at its peak Joey was ready to collapse, but he found strength and courage inside himself and kept on and survived.

I give the book a thumbs up. It is way more than just a story about a horse. It tells about World War I, but as seen through a horse’s eyes. It also is about a never-ending friendship. What I liked most about the book is that it taught me to never give up, even when all else around me is not going well. It was made into a movie, which was nominated for an Oscar for picture of the year. I liked having to visualize Joey’s adventures in my mind, instead of having someone else do it for me. So, I recommend that you read the book before you go to see the movie.

I read Wild Things by Clay Carmichael. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Wild Things is about a girl named Zoe who moves with her uncle after her mom died. Some important events are when Zoe finds a cat. She also finds a cabin in the woods.

The theme of the story is it always gets better. Zoe always did things for herself. Her mom didn’t really take care of her. Her uncle cares about her and always takes time to listen to what she has to say.

I give the book 10 stars. The book told a good story and had a great theme. There was always an interesting twist with every page. I think you should read this book because you will really enjoy the adventures Zoe experiences.

Hunger Games
My book report is on a novel written by Suzanne Collins, Hunger Games. Do you like adventure books? Do you like to be challenged? Then you will like Hunger Games. For me I couldn’t put the book down it was very good Suzanne explained with a lot of detail. The book is mainly about showing that each district is stronger then the other 12 districts. There are very important events like katniss everdeen was picked for the hunger games and peeta. The theme is to help your family at any cost. It means if your family is in risk of death help them the best you can. Like how katniss volunteered for prim in the hunger games. I love the book hunger games because it has just has what I like adventure and bravery lots and lots of bravery. Please read the amazing book I love it and I bet you will to.

Leviathan

The book Leviathan by Scott Westerfield is exciting and well worth reading. The book is about two people. Alek (one of the main characters) is an heir to the Austrian throne who just found out his parents were killed. He then sets off with his fencing master (Count Volger) and his mechaniks teacher (Otto Klopp) to escape the war that will soon be raging. The other (main) character is Deryn. Deryn is a girl disguised as a boy named Dylan. She is disguised so that she can be in the Air Service. One of the most important events in the story is when Deryn meets Alek. This important because this is when Deryn and Alek join forces.

The theme of this book would probably be best described in on word: DEFIANCE. This means that the main person, or in this case people, are driven to do one main thing (even if its not always the best or smartest option). A good example of this is that even when told not to and that girls are supposed to be prim and proper Deryn still tried out for the Air Force (and makes it).

I think that Leviathan was a great book and won it’s award because of its’ exeptional plot and details. I think this because when reading the details were so well written I felt as if I was actually in the book traveling with both Alek and Deryn. I think that this book would be great for somebody looking for an exciting and adventures book. For a rating I would give this book 10 out of 10 stars because it made you want to keep reading and reading.

P.S. You might be wondering why I spelled mekanics the way I did. Well, the reason why is because this book takes place in Europe and their English is spelled differently than ours (but says it the same way) and also that is how it was spelled in the book so I thought that maybe I should spell it that way. There’s no other reason really except I wanted to be correct. :D

Uncle Tom’s Cabin By: Harriet Beecher Stowe
This book is about a slave owner and became a person who helped slaves become free. Uncle Tom would take slaves in his cabin and supply them with food, shelter, and water. After Tom took them in and cleaned the slaves he told them another place to go, and witch direction to go.
The theme of this story is that you don’t always have to obey the rules, sometimes mix it up. For example, in the book they were raised to think that slaves didn’t feel, that you could do anything to them. When Uncle Tom disobeyed those teachings and was nice to them. The message of Uncle Tom’s Cabin is to make a difference in the world. For example, when everyone treated slaves like dirt Tom didn’t, Tom was nice to the slaves and treated them like any other person.
My opinion of this book would be that I liked the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It had details in which told a story from the perception that all of it was real. I think this book won an award for its outstanding detail and for its intriguing words, which sucks you right in at the beginning. Uncle Tom’s decision to help slaves showed amazing courage, even though taking good care of slaves was prohibited. Uncle Tom’s Cabin was the best African American written book I have read so far.

Would you like to wring a pigeon’s neck? Wringer, by Jerry Spinelli is about a boy named Palmer and a pigeon named Nipper. Palmer, who is 9, lives in a town in Michigan that kills pigeons by shooting them and wringing their necks. Five thousand of them are killed every year at the annual Pigeon Day that goes on during the weeklong Family Fest in August. Almost every little boy in this town wants to be a wringer when he turns ten. Everyone that is, except Palmer. One day, Palmer finds a pigeon tapping at his window. He lets it in and becomes very close to this pigeon and calls him Nipper because of how he nipped at Palmer’s ear every morning to wake him up. Palmer had to keep it a secret though, because if his best friends Beans, Mutto, or Henry found out that he was taking care of a pigeon they would make fun of him and kill the pigeon. For a year he hid the pigeon in his room then people started finding out. After a lot of thinking, Palmer decided to let Nipper go in Florida but he let him go at the wrong place and Nipper got captured and sent back to Michigan to be shot and wrung on Pigeon Day.

The theme of this book is standing up for what you want and not allowing anyone or anything to stop you from doing so. Among all the boys in the town the tradition was to go to Farquar and get the “treatment”. On every birthday you’d have to go to Farquar and he would take his middle knuckle and punch you in the arm with it. For example, in the book it says “He rolled his left sleeve up to the shoulder. He blinked several times. He looked around. He rolled his sleeve back down. He took a step back. He shook his head.” Palmer said no in front of his friends and to Farquar’s face because he didn’t want to get the “treatment”. It must of taken a lot of courage to do that. He got courage to also say no to being a wringer.

I think this book was okay but I don’t think it should have won an award. It was a little boring. The end of the book was sad but it was more interesting than the beginning of the book. There were very good descriptions which made it seem more realistic. If you have a lot of compassion for helpless animals you would probably like the book.

The book, The London Eye Mystery, by Siobhan Dowd, is just mystifying. When a misfit teenager, Ted, and his sister, Kat, have their Aunt Gloria and cousin, Salim, visit their flat in south London, they all decide what to do. Some say art museums and science museums, but what Salim whats to do is go to the London Eye. The London Eye is like a giant Ferris wheel in the sky, but it is uses for sightseeing. So, they go to the London Eye and Ted, Kat, and Salim wait. Someone gave him their ticket because they were afraid of heights. So, Salim goes because he never went before. Salim goes up, but doesn't come down. Where did he go? Was he spontaneously combusted? (Ted's theory) Has he been kidnapped? (Aunt Gloria's theory) Is he even alive? (the family's unspoken fear) No one can help them because even the police are baffled. What will they do next?
I think the book is one of the best I have ever read. I EXTREMELY recommend this book. It will get you thinking and rethinking over all the possibilities. It will hook you and make you read it and you just can't stop. You will be blown away with the ending of the book. There is no point in the book where it gets boring. It will hook you in the entire time. It has two opposite minds Ted, the smart one that thinks a lot, and Kat, the one that uses just common sense, that work together surprisingly well.

Do you like adventure? If so then Peak by Roland Smith is the book for you. A 14 year old boy named Peak climbs a sky scraper hoping to reach the top. When Peak reaches the top the FBI is there waiting for him. Peak has to go to court. In court Peaks father (Josh) is there. Peak hasn't seen his Father in seven years since his mom and Josh are split up. The Judge decides that Peak can either go to JDC or go with his father. Peaks dad takes him to go climb Mt. Everest! If peak goes up the mountain before he turns 15 Peak will be the youngest person ever to climb to the summit.
In Peak I think the author is trying to tell you to put others needs before your own. I think that that is the message because peak goes home to make his little twin sisters happy.
I loved the book Peak. I think that it won a award because it alway kept you interested always waning to know whats on the next page. the main character shows a huge amount of courage and strength. the book surprised me a lot. You should really read this book i recommend it.

For the February book report I decided to do The Rock and the River by Kekla Magoon. The setting is 1960 Chicago during the Civil Rights movement. The main character is Sam Childs. Sam’s father is Roland, a Civil Rights activist. Sam’s brother, Steven (or Stick) shows interest in a violent gang called the Black Panthers, which goes against what Sam’s father has taught him. Sam is torn between taking action and giving powerful speeches. Suddenly, Sam doesn’t know how to live. When he sees people like him getting beaten, he has no idea how he should react.
The theme of this book is to follow what you believe in. In the story, Stick shows this in many ways. Stick always follows what he believes in, no matter who doesn’t agree with him. Even if the whole world stood against him, Stick would follow what he truly thinks is best.
I really thought that The Rock and the River was an amazing book. It was really well written. It won the 2008 Correta Scott King Award. I think that this book deserves this award. I like it because it was told from a person with not just one view, but with two views.

I read the book Wait Till Helen Comes by Mry Downing Hahn and it was a really good book. Molly and her brother Micheals mom marries a man with a mysterious daughter named Heather. When they move out to an old church, Heather claims to have me a girl in the graveyard in the backyard. Heather tells them that the ghost, Helen, is coming to get them. Molly feels like Heather is in danger talking to Helen and tells her brother and her mom and stepdad. Michael says its just an imaginary friend and Molly is just scared of Heathers stories. Her mom tells her not to listen because they are just upsetting her and scaring her. Heathers dad feels that Molly and Michael are very mean to Heather and beleives the lies that Heather says about Molly and Michael and their mom and tells Molly that she needs to leave his daughter alone. One day, when Dave, Mollys stepdad, her mom and Heather go into town to get some supplies, Helen comes. Michael still refuses to believe in Hellen. One day while Molly and Michael are playing in the woods, they hear something coming from in their house, but they are sure that it is too early for their mother, Heather, and Dave to be home. When they go home, the hear someone breaking stuff inside and run to the road and start running towards the town, when they see their car coming down the road. When they all get home, who ever was inside was gone. They find that Mollys, Michaels, and their moms stuff is all broken. However, Daves and Heathers things aren't even touched! Heather tells Molly and Michael that it was Helen. The next day, Molly has to watch Heather. Heather ran off into the woods and Molly followed to see where Heather went. She found her with a strange white girl wearing an old fasioned dress. Molly knows Heather is in danger now but no one will believe her. How can she save her?
I loved this book! It was one of my favorite books by Mary Dowing Hahn. It was a mystery and i would really reccomed this book to everyone because it is a really good mystery book! The begining of the book wasn't as good as the rest of the book and the end of the book was surprising! If you like mystery books, then you would love this book!

If your looking for a funny book then read "Joey Pigza Swalled the Key" by Jack Gantos. Joey is a kid who can't sit still, doesn't pay attention, and doesn't follow the rules. Joey has problems where his attention span only lasts for so long, so when his meds aren't working he goes nuts! He gets in A LOT of trouble. A few minor things he did were swalled the key, got sent to the hallway, and sent to the office. He also lives with his crazy, abusive grandmother because his dad is a drunk and his mom ran after his dad. Then it get's a bit chaotic. His mother comes back and his grandma runs away! Joey then gets kicked out of school and has to go to special-ed. Also they find a solution to Joey's problem.

The theme of the story is don't judge people by there disability's. For instance, everybody thinks that Joey is a bad kid because he has problems. But he's not, he is very caring and likes to talk with people. He also is really smart. A lot of people thinks he's dumb because he's always moving around and not doing what he's supposed to do. He shouts out answers before the rest of the class. He just needs self control. His teacher Mrs. Maxy always sends him out of the class, either to the hall, office, or special-ed.

I thought the book was very good. I think this book won the award because it is comical and it shows how life is with problems. It also starts very interesting with Joey getting in trouble. Also, he talks about what people say about him and what he thinks of himself. The books ending is sort of surprizing. Joey is able to control his problems. To sum it all up, Joey get's in LOT'S of trouble, drives his mother crazy, but it all comes togther in the end. It is awesome, magnificent story. To find out the whole story read "Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key." I guarantee you'll love it!!!

The Borrowers
By: Mary Norton
The borrowers is a book about a 4 inch tall family who "borrow"things they need. Arrietty Clock sometimes goes borrowing with Pod (her Father). They live under the kitchen floorboards of a rather large, old house. While Arrietty is off borrowing with Pod, her mother stays house and cleans. Arrietty is only allowed to borrow with Pod because its dangerous to go alone and risk getting caught by a human. One day while she went borrowing and a young boy named, Sho, spots her. She runs for the shadows but its too late shes exposed. Sho convinced her to come out, so she does and they become friends. Pod doesn't like it though he thinks its too dangerous for a human to know they're in the house. If you want to her what happens next i suggest you read the book.
What the author was trying to say was that it doesnt matter the size, gender, or color you are. You can be friends with anyone.
I thought this book was fantastic because it kept your eyes glued to page wondering what will happen next. I think it won the award for its outstanding characters in the book. Such as Sho, who knew he has to have surgery? Or Arrietty, who would think she would get caught? If you want to know more READ THE BOOK!

The book I picked for my report was, "The Girl Who Threw Butterflies," written by Mick Cochrane. If you like baseball or softball, this is the book for you.

This book is about a girl who loves baseball and wanted to tryout for the boys team. She remembers when she was younger playing catch with her dad in the backyard and him teaching her how to throw a knuckle ball. She always had a great time playing with him.
When she made it on the team she couldn't be more excited.

The theme of the story is "you should always be yourself". Molly stays true to herself because she didn't try to be someone she is not. For example, no matter whether Molly hung out with her girlfriends or the boys, she acted the same around both.

My opinion of the story was it was a good book that had perseverance and honesty. Molly showed perseverance when she would make an error, she would not let it get her down and she would keep trying. She showed honesty by being true to herself. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes baseball or softball.

That is why I picked "The Girl Who Threw Butterflies" for my report.

My book is Knucklehead the author is Jon Scieszka. My book is mostly about tall tales and mostly true stories about growing up Scieszka. There is not a really important part in my book. One of my favorite chapter’s is sorry mom it is manly about one of the little brothers play with the older brothers and they were playing slater ball and the younger brother broke his collarbone. This is how you play slater ball one person throws the football up to start and another person catches it and runs away from everyone and the people with out the ball slater the ball carrier (tackle).

work with what you got. In the story Scieszka’s for Halloween they only had four customs for four brothers so every year they switched customs and did not get new customs so they had to use what they had.

My opinion on this book is that at first it’s a little boring but when you keep going it gets funnier and funnier. Some examples are when he bought a 100 piece army set and one of the brothers that it was big and the best thing ever he thought that because in the magazine it said the best army toy you can ever buy but it was very cheap so he saved up and bought it so it came like a week ago and he opens it and he finds a tiny little chest so he thought that that was not the army toys he bought so he opens the chest and it was his army set it was so small it was about the size of your fingernail and it was not 100 pieces it was like 20.I would recommend that you read this book

For my February book report I chose “An Acquaintance with Darkness” by Ann Rinaldi. If you like a little bit of history, with a dramatic turn; this book is for you! My book is about a fourteen year old girl, Emily, who cares for her mother until she dies. Emily had planned to live with her best friend, Annie Surratt, and her family. Yet, her Uncle Valentine doesn’t allow her to because he thinks the Surratt family are bad people. Also, what doesn’t help is President Lincoln was assassinated, and her uncle was worried for Emily. So Emily lives with her Uncle Valentine; she figures out her uncle does an ugly business. He is a doctor, but to get his bodies to exam and try to treat them he steals the bodies. He would send two of his assistants to say they were family to a bad accident, or go around grave robbing.

Emily’s mother brainwashed her into not liking her uncle, but in the end Emily learns to accept her uncle. The story says that Emily’s mother has always been suspicious and always disliked her Uncle Valentine. So I think the theme of this book would be speak for yourself, and don’t let people take advantage of you.

In my opinion, this book was amazing! I really liked this book, it had a lot of interesting events that happened. Emily showed she had a lot of courage to get up and leave her uncle during hard times. I don’t think anyone would have been able to do that. This was a really good book and I would recommend this book to anyone in 6th grade.

The Tale of Despereaux written by Kate DiCamillo is a sensational book. It is filled with adventure, and suspense. The story is about a heroic mouse named Despereaux, and his love and devotion for a princess named Pea. You will find that he will have to face a number of challenges. He will be betrayed by his family, a malicious rat, and be sent to the dungeon among other endeavors.

You will learn that for every action there is a reaction, and that we face consequences for the choices that we make. Despereaux will be punished for not being a typical mouse like his family. He will escape the dungeon to be seen and have his tail cut off. Even though he is facing all of these challenges the only thing he can think about is princess Pea.

The Tale of Despereaux is an exceptional book that deserved the John Newbery Medal. Despereaux was a mouse that showed great courage. He never let anything defeat him, and found the positive in any situation. In the end was he able to save princess Pea, and live happily ever after. Furthermore, if you choose to read The Tale of Desperaux you will truly be inspired.

My book is about this kid named Max and he ends up getting a connie wisneski card that lets u travel back in time. And max travels back in time when the chicks played baseball.

The theme of my book is keep an open mind. When Max travled back in time when girls played baseball, Max learned something new. For example he never new that the girls could throw hard, played as well as the men do and if you don’t wear makeup you will get a 5 doller fine!

I think this book is very interesting, Beacause it tells a lot about back in the day when the girls played baseball and it told me how they were sopposed to dress! I learned that girls can play as well as boys back in the day! I think the book ends in a weird way because, the author says about how the team called the chicks and how they died

Book report
2/28/12
The author of this book was James Riordan. The title from this amazing story was Boxcar Molly, a Story from the Great Depression. This story is about a girl named Molly who was a survivor of The Great Depression. Molly got her nickname “Boxcar Molly” from how she traveled in the depression. She jumped onto the boxcars on moving trains and never got hurt or caught a single time.
I believe the message of this novel was that you should never give up. In the story angry citizens who had lost their homes, family, and money are outraged by the depression which was the governments fault. This caused a riot of thousands of homeless people to Washington D.C. protesting the president does something about the depression. The president was agitated by this mess so he called in the police to get them out. There was shooting, tear gas, and people injured but they never gave up on what they wanted, to have their lives back.
I think this book was extraordinary! Molly showed so much bravery, whether it was jumping on speeding trains, to risking her life to what she wanted back to her and her family. The thing that I really think is amazing is that this story was a aunt of two young children telling her nieces about her awful days in The Great Depression. I would diffidently recommend this novel to anyone, it kept me on the edge of my seat waiting what would happen. Hope you read it.

I just finished reading the funniest book I’ve ever read, I’m a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to be Your Class President. The story was about an evil mastermind in the 7th grade who is trying be elected to be class president. He lives a double life. At school and at home he acts as if he is a nerdy simple-minded kid, but in reality he is the richest person in the world, not to mention an evil genius. But no one knows that he is a mastermind and is yet to take over the world. He is able to manipulate anyone. The book was a funny book that most people I know would probably think this book is hilarious. In the book he talks about how a billionaire is actually one of his servants and he always makes fun of his teacher by putting sentences on his cigarettes like “Your diet isn’t working” and people think his teacher is crazy when he tells the company he buys them from that the cigarettes have mean insults on them. To run for class president he had to steal a ultra rare Bobba Fett action figure from an African dictator. One of his own enemies started a rumor that he would die from being fat. This caused people to feel bad for him and everyone started voting for him. Even the people who was running against felt bad for him and they dropped out of the race, well one of the people running against him needed a little “persuasion” to drop out. But then his father (who he can’t stand) tells him it isn’t really winning unless he beats someone. And there is the challenge, he has to find someone to run against. He works his evil genius and gets Randy Sparks, the most annoying boy in school, to run against him. The only 3 people that he doesn’t hate are his mom, Lionel Sheldrake (a Billionaire who is only to the front to his evil empire), and his own dog. To find out the ending you’ll have to read the book, it’s definitely worth the time.

My book is Lord of the Flies. It’s about British school kids whose plane crashes and only the kids survive the crash. The kids vote for a chief of the kids. The kids first worry about being rescued, then hunting, and then they split into two groups one (4 people) is civilized, trying to have smoke signals to be rescued, the other (36 people) savages, always worrying about hunting , fire, violence. The two begin to turn on each other which ends up in a war. 4 against 36. I can’t tell you about deaths if -there are any- but I can tell you that the civilized person –I said person- left gets rescued.
The theme of the story is choosing civilized over savages. It’s saying having the ability to do whatever is you want to do isn’t always the best thing

The book I read is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book is a very riveting, and good book if you like to read books that you never want to put down. The Hunger Games is about two kids that are chose, by a drawing, to represent their district, or town, in a battle. The two main characters are forced into an arena. Each district has a boy and girl tribute who will fight tributes from other districts, until death. Some districts are stronger than others, especially if their district supports agriculture or hunting. Some tributes have been trained from the age of 12 in order to prepare them for fighting in the arena, if they were to get picked for the games.
The theme of this story is to never give up. Throughout the story Katniss shows this act in many ways. One time, Katniss wanted to partner up with Peeta. When they were able to partner up she couldn’t find Peeta anywhere. She never gave up looking for him and eventually she found him. Also, when Katniss lost a couple of close friends she would place flowers around their body, and even though she missed them horribly, she would pull through and keep fighting. She knew that her lost friend would still want her to win this for them; so she would move on. Peeta had some bad injuries in the arena, and he would always try his best to pull through the pain to stay alive for and with Katniss. He never gave up either.
I really liked this story, and I totally recommend it. I think The Hunger Games won an award because it is very intense and it’s very hard to put the book down, because you always want to know what happens next. The Hunger Games has a lot of suspense and the book ends in a very surprising way. In my opinion you should read this book because it’s a really good read and is very interesting.

The Hunger Games
If you love action, adventure, and a book you can’t put down, then The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is way beyond perfect for you. The book is about a fight to the death. They have this fight because the Capitol of the 12 districts of Panem is cruel and needs to keep the districts in line. Each district sends one boy and one girl to fight against the other tributes. Katniss Everdeen, a six-teen year old citizen from district 12, takes her little sister’s spot as a tribute because she is scared that her sister might get killed.
One of this book’s themes or messages is that if you fight hard you will end up going far. This means that if you work as hard as you can, like Katniss did, then you will be a victor. In the book there were many times when Katniss was in a life and death situation and she still didn’t give up. This is how I know what the author was trying to get across.
In my opinion this was the best book I’ve ever read in my entire life. I now know why this book won an award. It has so many good things that Suzanne wrote. The book was hard to put down. It had so much action and suspense. I think that the main character had a big part of why this special book won the many awards that it did. She was brave, strong, and adventuress. I would highly suggest that you read this fantastic book if you can.

The Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen was a great read. It's about a 13 year old boy named Samuel who lived during the Revolutionary War. Samuel's home was far from other civilization. Living in the wilderness, he was a good hunter and new how to use knives and guns. His life changed when his parents were taken prisoner by the British.
The message for me is that if you set your mind to it you can do anything that's possible. Samuel decided to follow his parents across the land by himself. He encountered many bloody battles. He had to rely on his skills to survive on his journey. He also made friends along his way.
My opinion about this book is that it was suspenseful and awesome. The book should have won an award. You should read the Woods Runner because it is amazing how he lived off the land and survived battles along the way to find his parents. This a good read!

Have you ever dreamed of wringing a pigeon's neck? Well in the town of
Waymer it is traditional that when boys turn 10, they wring the neck of pigeons every year at the annual Family Fest Pigeon Shooting Day. But 9 year old Palmer LaRue has different plans. In this book Palmer lives two lives; one where he finds a pigeon tapping at his window and keeps it and names it Nipper because it nipped his ears, the other is with the cool guys: Beans, Mutto, and Henry who all want to be wringers. Palmer keeps his pigeon a secret so he can still be cool. Until the guys start to suspect something. Palmer's double life lasted for a year until the guys find out he has a pigeon. So he gives the pigeon to Dorothy, his neighbor, to take with her on her vacation and set Nipper free. But she accidentally lets him go by the railroads where they catch the pigeons and bring them to Waymer. So at Pigeon Day, Palmer nervously watches as the pigeons are shot down with a "Boom!". The wringers come in and wring the necks of the pigeons and set up for the next shooter. But one pigeon is different. Palmer is almost certain that it's Nipper. The shooter is about to shoot, when...

I think that the theme of this story is that you should always fight for what you love. For example when the guys try to get Palmer to be a wringer, he doesn't even dare. He never wanted to be a wringer in the first place.

I think that this book won an award because of the amazing plot and ability for some kids to connect to the characters. If you have compassion for animals and for saving animals, then this book is for you.

The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas was one of the best books I ever read. The story is about Conwear a teenager who is a thief on the streets. One day he steals a wizard’s locus magicalicus (what the wizard uses to do spells, like a wand). The wizard tracks him down and is surprised the locus magicalicus did not kill him. So the wizard, Nevery, takes him in as his servant and eventually Conwear becomes Nevery’s apprentice. To find out what happens next read the book

The theme in this story is if you fight hard and long enough for something you will accomplish it.

I thought the book was very interesting and well written. I couldn’t put it down. I think the book won an award because the author describes things so well it makes you feel like you are in the book. You won’t know what’s going to happen next in the book and the ending is shocking.

The book I read was "Titanic Young Survivers"
By Allan Zullo. This book is about teens and little kids who survived the sinking of the Titanic.
Some important events that happened is that the big ship hit an iceberg, and that a lot of people lost their lives.
It wasn't easy for those who lived in the third class because they they didn't get to go on the lifeboats early enough.
I liked this book because I liked how it described the lives of the people who were on the Titanic.
This book was intresting because it was nice to know how different the lives of the rich and poor people were.

All The Broken Peices By, Ann E. Burg
This book blowa my mind with the sport of baseball in it. This book is about Matt's life and how he makes it through the baseball season, while being bullied and having Vietnam on his mind. He has a disorder as a baby and fights through it and keeps practicing playing catch. He makes the baseball team. Another major event is from being in Vietnam and over coming his fear and talks about it in a group of people that have also been in Vietnam. The final major event is their coach for baseball, coach Roberson. He got cancer right in mid-season as they were doing good enough to head toward the trophy. He asigns a new coach, Coach Williams, but he's not your normal coach, he's in a wheelchair.

I think the message of what the author is trying to get across is, you need to overcome your weakness and fight for what you want. Matt is the main character in the story, and in the beginning he has a physical disability. On the way up through his life he tries to fight back through this disability. He starts practicing baseball with his Dad, and starts to find out that he is pretty good at it. That makes him try out for the baseball team. That told him he could fight it because hemade the team. That is what the author is trying to get across.

In my opinion, I would recommend this book to all. The reasons why I am recommending this book is because of the topic of baseball. The main character in the book, Matt, was able to fight through his disability, and play his favorite game, baseball. This book was really well written. It kept my attention through the whole story.

What would you do if someone wrung a pigeons neck? In the book Wringer by Jerry Spinelli The main character Palmer LaRue would do anything to stop it. In his town when boys turn 10 years old they become wringers and wring pigeons necks on the annual Family Fest Pigeon Shooting Day. Palmer tries to do anything to stop this. He even keeps a pigeon in his room, takes care of him, and names him Nipper, but when will this end because his three friends Beans, Mutto, and Henry all want to be wringers and are starting to suspect things. What will happen? Will Palmer become a wringer? Will Nipper be found?

I think the author's message is to fight for what you want! Palmer fights for what he wants by standing up for himself and showing everyone he is not a wringer by keeping Nipper in his room. Palmer fought for everything!

The book Wringer is a great book. I think it won an award for its great story line and how well it describes the character's thoughts and feelings. I would recommend this book to anyone. If you want a book that will keep you in suspense or you love animals then Wringer is the book for you!

** Diamond Willow**
Book Review
For the month of Feb. I read the book Diamond Willow.
A girl named Willow (Diamond Willow) got he name from a stick that when you carve it there were diamonds in the center. One day on her way back to her grand-parents house she was going really fast, with her two dogs and the leader Roxy. As she going really fast she realized there was a tree (late). She ran into the tree and Roxy's eyes started to bleed. She took off her shirt and covered her eyes. she attatched her to the sled and took off home. when she got home she had bruises all over her and her Mom worried about her legs, While Dad ran to Roxy. Her Dad made he feel guilty and ran to her room. She was so upset with herself she wouldn't dinner. She would only talk to Roxy at night . Later her and her friend left school early to take Roxy the vet. And they realize she is blind.

I'd say the theme of the story is be grateful for what you've got.In the story, Willow's dad thinks about putting Roxy down. Her mother suggest having her as a mouse catcher.

I give this for out of five.... <3 <3 <3 <3 / <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

AL Capone Does My Shirts
How would you like to live in a prison on an island? Well, in the story Al Capone Does My Shirts, the main character, Moose Flanagan, does. In this story, written by Gennifer Choldenko, Moose and his family move to the island of Alcatraz because his dad got a job as a watchman. Moose didn’t like living on Alcatraz, but it got even worse when he meets the warden’s daughter, Piper, who is a little brat. Moose doesn’t like his new school, because he didn’t have any friends there. However, he makes a few friends playing baseball. Piper gets the word out that he lives on Alcatraz, and then his best friend asks him for a convict baseball. This is the most precious item on the island. Moose gets into trouble when he and his sister, Natalie, go looking for it.
I think the message in this book is how changes can be good and bad. The good changes were that Moose gets to live with famous people, his house is very protected by watch guards, he makes new friends, and he can still play baseball. The bad changes were that Moose had to move to Alcatraz, which he didn’t want to do. He has to start all over again at his new school making friends. His sister has autism, and Moose is always responsible for her.
My opinion on the book would be that it was just okay to read. It was a little boring in the beginning, a little more interesting in the middle, and good at the end. There isn’t any action. He shows a lot of courage though, because he has the guts to yell at a convict that is right in front of him. It did have a very surprising ending. I think this book is very well thought out.

The Siege, book four of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole.
In this book, there is betrayal, hate, and cruelty. Soren, Gylfie, Twilight, Digger, Ruby, and Otulissa have just returned from a mission to rescue Ezylryb. He was caught in what they called a Devil's Triangle. Now they are being called the Chaw of Chaws because they completed an impossible mission. A chaw is like a class. So now the Chaw of Chaws is going on another mission. The only problem is, Soren and Gylfie were once imprisoned at the place that they have to infiltrate. What happens next? You find out.
I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was so entertaining that I couldn't put the book down for 3 hours straight. The theme of the book is that sometimes, rules must be broken to do what is right. In the book, Soren and the rest of the Chaw of Chaws broke the rule to stay there unless you get permission.

The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins

A girl named Katniss Everdeen is in danger of being chosen for the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a survival between twenty-four contestants. Two contestants from each district are chosen randomly and have to fight to the death; only one person comes out alive. It is a game of skill and strategy. Katniss is a girl who is poor and has to feed her family by hunting in the forest. Her dad was killed in a mining accident, and her mom is so sad she cannot help feed the family. Her best friend, Gale, helps her hunt and feed her family. She is a very unfortunate girl whose sister gets chosen for the Hunger Games, and Katniss volunteers herself to save her sister. The contestants get brought to the capitol to practice and show their skills. Also in the book, Katniss meets up with a girl named Rue and they team up. They work together, until… Well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out. Read the book to see who wins the Hunger Games.
In the book, the author is trying to say that people don’t own you. In the book, Peeta says, that he wishes that the capitol didn’t own him, and that if he dies, he dies being himself. Another reason is Katniss and Peeta didn’t agree to kill each other, and forced the capitol to let both of them live. Katniss also put flowers around Rue’s body to show that Rue is more than just a piece in their game. I think that is the lesson of the book.
The Hunger Games received the award for 2009 Children’s Choice Book Award and was a Teen Choice Book of the Year Finalist. I think it won this award, because it had teenage kids who made it easier to imagine what was happening. I also think it was awarded for the great drama and action-packed story line. You could imagine almost everything that happened in it. This book was very good; in fact it was my favorite. It is action-packed, sad, and a gruesome book. It is a must read book.

If you’re looking for a great fantasy, you’ll love “The Magic Thief: Found”. Sarah Prineas uses magic in ways you’ve never seen. Her vivid descriptions make the story come alive. Only an expert could have made characters and settings as realistic as she did. After reading “The Magic Thief: Found,” you’ll agree it is a masterpiece to behold.
The book starts off with Conn and Nevery meeting in the Twilight to discuss the oncoming threat of the predator magic Arhionvar. Arhionvar wishes to destroy the Wellmet magic in order to become stronger. They know how to fight Arhionvar; the only problem is Conn needs a new locus stone to do so because his old one was destroyed in a previous incident. After searching through many grimoires, Conn finally found a finding spell to assist him in the search for his locus stone. When the correct preparations were made, Conn performed the spell (using pyrotechnics) and his journey began. About half-way there, the oddest of things occurred: a mysterious dragon picked him up and carried him the rest of the way. Conn was dropped off in a cave with thousands of locus stones, but eventually he found his stone and headed back home on the dragon. When Conn returned, Arhionvar had just about arrived, and the battle for the Wellmet magic had begun.
Personally, my favorite part of the story was when Conn’s journey for a new locus magicalicus led him to a dragon’s lair. And, as an added bonus, there were thousands upon thousands of locus magicalicuses stockpiled there too. After three days of searching, Conn finally found his stone, just as he was about to pick it up, a young dragon, later named Pip, swallowed it whole. So unless Conn wanted to cut Pip wide open, he wasn’t going to get his stone back. Other than his encounter with dragons, this event was significant because the mystery of where magic originated was finally revealed.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves magic, wizards, and any other things with fantasy relation. But instead of wands, there is something even better: LOCUS STONES! Sarah Prineas puts a spin a magic you are sure to love.

Jim and Me.
By: Dan Gutman

Would you ever like to back in time just by holding a baseball card. Well, this one kid can, his name is Stosh. He travels back in time just by holding an old baseball card. This book is called “Jim and Me”, by Dan Gutman. This is an interesting book for anyone who loves adventures and baseball. This is an amazing book for people who like mysteries, also.
This book starts off at a baseball game and it is the 9TH inning and Stosh is up to bat and there are 2 outs and bases are loaded. His coach is Flip Valentini, a professional baseball player who pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers. But Stosh got out and every one was mad at him. When his enemy, Bobby Fuller, begs him for a favor. He wants Stosh to take him back in time to meet Native American Jim Thorpe—an Olympic champion who lost his medals in a scandal. Thorpe went on to play professional baseball and football, but he could never again achieve such fame. His name was disgraced.
My favorite part of this book is when Stosh actually helps his enemy and that to me shows a true kind person with a good heart.
If I were a critic, I would give this book 4 stars. I recommend this book to people who love adventures, baseball, and mysteries.

A Boy At War

A Boy at War by Harry Mazer is a historical fiction novel. This book is about a boy, Adam, in who was fishing in the Pacific Ocean with his friends when Pearl Harbor was bombed. After getting back to shore Adam and his friends were separated. Adam found a rocket launcher and a rifle. He shot down one of the planes and was grazed at by the enemy.
Adam, a military child, attends high school in Honolulu. His dad is a soldier on a battleship at Pearl Harbor. Adam is a smart, young man who is able to make friends easily. He has a younger sister, Bea, who is 3 years old. Adam’s best friends, Davi and Martin get up early on a Sunday December 7, 1941 to go fishing in the Pacific Ocean. Even though the three boys came to fish they really only talked and Adam was telling them everything about the battle ships. Adam said, “My daddy is on the Arizona he told me that their titanium walls were 14 inches of pier metal, and there huge unbeatable fire power was unbelievable.” With in minutes the three boys were in the middle of the water looking at all the ships. All the sudden there were three little planes that grabbed the boy’s attention. They thought maybe it was some military exercise or they were making a movie and they get to watch from the boat. But then they heard huge blasts. They had no clue what was going on so as soon as they heard he explosions they hurried back to shore and ran to grab their bikes.
They’re watching bomb-by-bomb dropping on the ships. Adams heart is beating a mile a minute. He was so nervous about his mom and little sister Bea at home, but most of all his dad on the battle ship Arizona.
As Adam is running having no clue what’s going on finds a rifle and rocket launcher. He looks for a little bit thinking should I use this on the planes or not. His decision was made. He took the rocket launcher and shot down one plane and then trying for the next and realized there was no more bullets. As Adam is going home to be safe, he had no clue that there were Japanese soldiers on the ground. As he was walking home he felt a bullet graze his back and he fell in pain. Adam makes it home to his mom and Bea, but is wondering and worried about where Davi and Martin are.
A couple days later Adam finally shows his mom the bruise on his back. All the sudden the doorbell rings it’s Martin and he’s hurt bad, shot in the leg. Adam’s mom rushes him into the bedroom and she was a surgeon, luckily. Then after that Davi came with a small bruise from running into a wall on his face.
Day after day Adam and his mom were worried about dad. A couple days later they got a letter saying ” I’m extremely sorry but your father/husband is not to be found or M.I.A (missing in action) with many others.” As soon as they read it they both start crying. That night the colonel came to their house to tell them that the sergeant, his dad, was found. He was brutally shot and he was very sorry for their loss.
The best part of this book is when Adam shot down the plane. This is the most exciting part of the book because he is probably the only person who had the guts to shoot down a plane, who wasn’t a solider. He was brave and courageous to do such a terrifying thing.
I would certainly recommend this book to others because I liked that it was historical. I like book that have to do with war. I really liked how the characters were kids and not adults.

The book I read was Divergent. The author is Veronica Roth, also author of Insurgent. I would say the genre is young-adult fiction. Or as I call it fantasy-fiction. It takes place in the future, and the city Chicago. It tells how it might be if we lived many many years from now.
It starts out with a girl named Beatrice. She tries hard to be like her parents but soon finds that it is going to be harder than it looks. She ends up leaving her family to become a different person. She becomes Tris. She finds that she did the right thing when she meets a daring boy named four, she thinks she may have feelings for him but how will she tell him?
My favorite part of the book is when Beatrice (Tris) realizes she is nothing like her graceful, giving parents. Her the clumsy, selfish girl decides that it"s time she left. She doesn't know where to go though, will she ever finds out where she belongs and who she really is?
I would recommend this series to any one who couldn't stop reading the Hunger Games. I would recommend it to you because it takes place in the future and it is about a girl who will find she is different from everyone. I hope you find yourself Falling head over heals for the amazing series. Make sure to read the first book of the series Divergent.

Book Report
If you are looking for a great realistic fiction book, then you would like Every Soul a Star. It's an amazing book with three main characters: Bree, Ally, and Jack. When I read it I felt like I was in the book because the author, Wendy Mass, wrote it so well. After reading the book, I was left hagging. I thought there had to be more to the book. But, I know I was left hanging for a reason: the author wanted us to think of our own ending. The book starts off with Bree finding out she has to move to the middle of nowhere, where Ally lives because her parents love science and want to see an eclipse. Then, Ally finds out she has to move to a big city because her dad has an excellent job offer. Finally, Jack finds out the only way to get out of summer school is to go on a trip to the middle of nowhere with his science teacher, where Ally lives, to see an eclipes. All three of the unlikely friends meet because of the eclipes and become best friends. Bree and Ally both don’t want to move. The only way for these two girls not to move, is to think of a plan. When they can’t get their plans to work, they must think of something else. But, when Jack’s science teacher’s wife is in the hospital, Bree and Ally have no choice but to forget about their plans and to help to try and discover a star that hasn’t been mapped. If you want to know what happens next you should try reading the book. I thought it was very interesting and you will too. I thank the author, Wendy Mass, who wrote this book because it interested me a lot. I enjoyed the book and I hope you do too.
